Used Traynor YBA-3 Custom Special
This Amp has been properly tested here in the shop and sounds incredible!
The Traynor YBA-3 Custom Special is a 4 EL-34, crushingly powerful tube bass head that happens to be voiced perfectly for monolithically loud electric guitar! If a Fender Dual Showman could collide with a 100 watt Marshall Super Bass, this would be the product.
Think- extended bottom, wide-open midrange, and pleasant, snappy top. Another point of comparison might be something like the Ampeg V4. When cranked, the YBA-3 has a much more pleasant, rich overdrive tone, with far more harmonic complexity and EQ flexibility than the sorta squashed, square-wave fuzz of a V4. A Sunn Model T is another great point of comparison- massive headroom, turning to glorious power tube saturation. The enormous transformers help keep the low end tight and responsive.
For bass players, you'll find a much fuller low end than any other Traynor, aside from this amp's rare 400-watt cousin, the storied YBA-3A Super Custom Special, which was the amp that inspired the creation of the Ampeg SVT. Here, you'll have plenty of raw, high-plate voltage power to gig out in a crushingly loud rock band. If you choose to dial it in, the amp can have really lovely treble presence- it's fantastic for cutting through a mix, and not harsh in the way a Bassman or V4 could be.
